Makeup? (Introduction Webisode)
When Lauren Elliott, the founder of PNN, asked me to do a show for PNN, I recognized it as an opportunity to come full-circle. I started out in broadcast journalism, and when I feel discouraged about my life, it becomes the Great Path Not Taken. I hadn't touched a video camera in 25 years, so I was surprised and pleased that it all came back to me -- and the equipment is a tenth of the weight it used to be.What also came back to me were my anxieties and flaws -- as well as the need for makeup. Anyone who knows me knows I don't wear it. But I looked at my practice takes and thought, ick. So, I went to Walgreens and stood there with the 16-year-olds, trying to figure out what foundation shade was mine. I was shocked by the prices and understood the ad slogan: "You're worth it." How else would they get anyone to pay that much? I finally found an old-fashioned brand that was having a sale, matched my color as best I could, and tottered home, laughing at myself.
Before the shoot, I smeared on the goop and again thought, ick. I didn't look like myself at all. I washed off half of it. That was better.
I see the need for other improvements, but I'm taking this one thing at a time.
