The PNN Guide

Adding Articles

Use the Add Text, tool to add articles to your broadcast, format them, or to edit articles you've already placed.

Click on the Add Text, tool to open it. On the left side of the window are two tabs: Articles, which lets you add new articles, and My Archive,, which lists all of the articles you've already placed on your broadcast. The window automatically opens to the Articles tab, and you should see "New Article" highlighted. On the right is the article that you have highlighted, in this case, "New Article."

You can type in new text, cut and paste from existing text files -- or even email in your articles. (We explore the email option in the next section.) You also can choose the color and style of the text.

To add an article, make sure that "New Article" is highlighted on the left side of the window. On the right, in the title area, highlight the text "New Article," and type your title. You can also choose a font and color for the title.

Below, in the article area, highlight "Enter Text Here," and then type in your article or cut and paste from an existing text file.

You can format your article by using the style bar just above where you entered your text. It works pretty much the same as in any word-processing program. To make your text bold or italic, click on the B or I icons. By pressing on the arrow next to "Normal," you can make the paragraph where you have your cursor be a heading or a subheading.

Next on the style bar are the options for left flush, centered and right flush text. Again, only the paragraph where you have your cursor is affected.

To the right are the options for numbered or bulleted lists. Just click on them to activate them.

To give your text color, highlight the text, and then click on the Text color button, which is just to the right of the bulleted list option. When you click on the button, you'll see a palette of colors. Click on the color you want. The text fill button works the same way. Just highlight the paragraph or paragraphs and choose your color.

The last option lets you add a link to other Web sites. Click on the button and type in the URL.

Under the Format tab, you choose how many articles you want shown in that text box -- from 3-15. You can also decide whether or not to include your byline and posting date with every article.

If you click on the comments box, you're letting the world write comments on your broadcast that everyone can see. Whether you do this is up to you. Allowing this feature builds your readership by creating the feeling of community. The downside is that sometimes people can be rather frank, so be ready for it. You can always come back and uncheck the box.

Before we talk about the Email tab, which is addressed in the next section, let's talk about the My Archive tab, which is on the left side of the window. When you click on the tab, you'll see a list of all of your articles. If you click on a title, you should see the article on the right. You can edit or reformat the text, if you like. You can also delete an article by highlighting the title on the left and then clicking "Delete" at the bottom of the left window.

Every time you add a new text box to your broadcast, it's placed at the top of the column and pushes all the others down. You can then move it by using the edit bar.
